Ferrari are set to introduce a new power unit upgrade at their home Italian Grand Prix in Monza, according to reports from Italian media outlet Corriere Della Sera.
The Maranello-based team are fighting hard to close down Mercedes, who currently hold the advantage in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships in 2026.
Mercedes demonstrated their superiority at the Belgian Grand Prix, where Kimi Antonelli delivered an impressive pole position and race victory double at Spa-Francorchamps.
However, Ferrari did manage to claw back some ground in the constructors’ standings despite Antonelli’s dominant display in Belgium.
George Russell crashed out of the Belgian Grand Prix on lap one after coming into contact with Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, leaving him pointless and dropping him in the drivers’ standings.
Charles Leclerc crossed the line in second place at Spa, while Hamilton salvaged fourth, meaning Ferrari actually reduced the gap to Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.
Hamilton’s fourth-place finish was enough to move him above Russell and into second position in the drivers’ championship, keeping his title hopes very much alive.
Ferrari have not won a world championship of any kind since 2008, making the current battle with Mercedes one of the most significant fights the Italian team have engaged in for nearly two decades.
Corriere Della Sera reports that the upgraded Ferrari power unit will arrive in time for the Italian Grand Prix on September 6, the 13th round of the season.
Monza is well suited to the upgrade, sharing many characteristics with Spa-Francorchamps as a high-speed circuit, famously nicknamed the Temple of Speed.
The pressure will be immense for Ferrari at their home race, with the passionate Tifosi expecting their team to deliver a statement performance in front of them.
If the power unit upgrade delivers the gains Ferrari are hoping for, it could shift the momentum of the championship battle significantly in the second half of the season.
