Lewis Hamilton After Turkish GP Qualifying: P6 Was The Best I Could Do

The Brit is still in a good position to win his seventh F1 Championship on Sunday at Istanbul.

Lewis Hamilton was left disappointed after qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix on Saturday, with him only managing to qualify P6.

Both Mercedes drivers struggled in the wet conditions on the newly resurfaced Intercity Istanbul Park circuit, but as Hamilton outqualified team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who will start the race down in P9, he is still in a good position to win his seventh F1 Championship this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after qualifying, Hamilton seemed baffled by their lack of pace:

“Umm, yeah we just… I’m not really sure what to say. We tried our hardest and did the best we could. This was the fastest we could go.

“I mean the track feels terrible. It’s just like driving on ice. And for whatever reasons some people could get the tyres switched on better than us. I think ultimately everyone was struggling out there, but some are better than others.”

Continuing, Hamilton said he feels he put in a good performance despite qualifying several places lower than what he has become accustomed to with Mercedes.

“I’m not really… I did the best I could, I didn’t spin, I didn’t really make any mistakes so I’m generally happy. I did what I could with what I had,” he concluded.
