Michael Schumacher’s son, Mick, will “almost certainly” make his debut as a Formula 1 driver with Alfa Romeo or Haas next season, sources in the paddock have told Formula1News.co.uk.

Mick Schumacher is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA), and sources indicate that discussions are already underway for him to be on the F1 grid next season with one of Ferrari’s customer teams.

He is currently fifth in the Formula 2 Driver Standings, 42 points adrift of Championship leader Callum Ilott, who is also a member of the FDA.

Earlier this month, Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said he was impressed by Schumacher’s improved performance in F2 this season.

“We’ll soon discuss what we’re going to do with him next year,” Binotto said.

“I think the next logical step for Mick would be to start with a smaller Formula 1 team where he can get to know everything and then slowly go from there,” he added.

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, Haas team principal Guenther Steiner said he was open to fielding two new drivers in 2021.

However, it is believed that Alfa Romeo is the most likely destination for Schumacher next year.
