While it was previously reported that Racing Point driver Lance Stroll was unable to race at the Eifel GP due to stomach trouble, he has now released a statement on Instagram revealing that he tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
Lance informed his followers, “I just want to let everyone know that I recently tested positive for Covid-19 after the Eifel GP weekend. I am feeling 100% and have since tested negative.”

Lance’s positive test accompanies a number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Mercedes team over the course of the weekend at the Nurburgring.
In the announcement, Lance also noted that he had flown home before the race on Sunday after self-isolating in his motorhome the day before.
Stroll added that he will be able to race at Portugal this weekend:
“Luckily, my symptoms were pretty mild […] I feel in great shape and I can’t wait to be back with the team and to race in Portugal.”
As a result of his symptoms and both Friday practice sessions being cancelled due to poor weather conditions, Stroll didn’t take part in any of the action at the Nurburgring.
So far this season, only one other driver (Sergio Perez, Stroll’s team-mate at Racing Point) has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Mexican had to miss both grand prix at Silverstone, paving the way for Nico Hulkenberg to make his surprise return to Formula One.
